Body dysmorphic disorder is a very serious issue in the modern world we live in, and star of ABC's Emmy award winning comedy series, Modern Family, Reid Ewing is opening up today about his struggle with his body issues. The 27-year-old actor is saying that he hasn't always been comfortable with his body and has even undergone cosmetic procedures in order to feel more positive about his looks, all of which he says he now regrets.

According to PEOPLE, the actor explained that after he moved to Los Angeles back in 2008 that he got his first procedure and become obsessed with fixing his face.

The star opened up to Huffington Post in a blog post, where he wrote, "I genuinely believed if I had one procedure I would suddenly look like Brad Pitt."

The star first decided to get check implants after talking with a doctor, but then later says that he regretted it after waking up with his face completely swollen. The swelling did eventually go down, but he was ultimately unpleased with the results.

"The lower half of my cheeks were as hollow as a corpse's," he explained. "I went back to the doctor several times in a frenzy, but he kept refusing to operate on me for another six months, saying I would eventually get used to the change. I couldn't let anyone see me like this, so I stayed in complete isolation."

He also mentioned that each new surgery, while it might alleviate one problem, would cause a brand new one, which would need to be fixed by going under the knife again.

However, he said he finally gave up the operations in 2012 because, "all the isolation, secrecy, depression and self hate become too much to bear."

He is speaking out to bring awareness for others in the same situation, according to The New York Daily News saying, "Before seeking to change your face, you should question whether it is your mind that needs fixing. It's a horrible hobby, and it will eat away at you until you have lost all self-esteem and joy. I wish I could go back and undo all the surgeries. Now I can see that I was fine to begin with and didn't need the surgeries after all."
