Actor Taye Diggs has been making a lot of headlines after he revealed that he didn't want his "mixed" son to be labeled as black. Diggs has been promoting his new book, Mixed Me, that was inspired by his biracial son, Walker. Diggs shares the six-year-old with actress and singer Indina Menzel.

According to The Grio, Diggs explained why he wanted his son to know that he was mixed, and not just black.

"When you [call biracial kids black], you risk disrespecting that one half of who you are, and that's my fear," Diggs told the site. "I don't want my son to be in a situation where he calls himself black and everyone thinks he has a black mom and a black dad, and then they see a white mother, they wonder, 'Oh, what's going on?'"

The actor also used President Obama as an example and explained why he didn't refer to the POTUS as "the first black U.S. president" when he's biracial.

"As African-Americans, we were so quick to say okay he's black, he's black, and then there were the white people who were afraid to say he was biracial because who knows. Everybody refers to him as the first black president. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying that it's interesting. It would be great if it didn't matter and that people could call him mixed. We're still choosing to make that decision, and that's when I think you get into some dangerous waters."

Diggs also appeared on The Real where he revealed that he was "very passionate" about writing his second children's book for his son. Diggs' first book is called, Chocolate Me. He described that book to be about himself growing up in a predominately Caucasian neighborhood as the "dark chocolate" child.

In his second book, Diggs wanted it to speak to the biracial kids going through ups and downs in their own life dealing with their identity.
