"American Idol" was back Wednesday night with it's second live viewer voting show of season 12. This time it was the men's turn. The top 10 men performed for a live television audience, but Thursday night we will find out which five men will make it to the next round. Unfortunately for the male contestants, they were not nearly as good as the women, including a terrible performance from Charlie Askew that left the young singer shaken.

Elijah Liu started off the show with his rendition of Rihanna's "Stay." For the most part the judges seemed to enjoy Liu's performance, with Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson liking his marketability.

Cortez Shaw picked Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven." His performance didn't get the same positive reviews that Liu received. Keith Urban questioned the singer's song choice, while Minaj and Jackson criticized him for his style. Overall, it wasn't a very positive response from the judges.

The performance Wednesday night that people will likely be talking about is Charlie Askew's rendition of the Genesis song "Mama." Unfortunately for the young man, it won't be because of how good it was. Askew's performance was definitely not very good, but the judges criticism was hard to watch. Minaj, of course, criticized his choice of dress. Askew wore a sleeveless camo shirt revealing his arms and the judges weren't having it. Randy Jackson just ripped the young man's singing performance saying, "The front part, dude, was terrible...It didn't all connect at all for me tonight. I didn't get it. I didn't know what was happening."

Askew was visibly upset as the judges gave him his review. If America votes based on performance there is no way Askew can make it to the next round, but maybe TV viewers will feel bad for him and vote him forward. You never know.

Nick Boddington performed the Goo Goo Dolls song "Iris." The judges were split on his performance, but compared to the other singer's, this may be one of the better jobs by a male contestant. Burnell Taylor followed Boddington by singing "I'm Here" from "The Color Purple." Urban gave Taylor a standing ovation afterTaylor gave the best performance of the night until that point.

Paul Jolley sang Christina Aguilera's "Just a Fool." Again the judges seemed split on the singer. They liked it, but weren't blown away, which seems to be what most of the male singers were providing Wednesday night.

Lazaro Arbos performed "Feeling Good," which got very positive reviews from the judging panel. Arbos was followed up by an equally strong performance from Curtis Finch Jr., who sings R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly." Based on the judges standing ovation, Finch Jr. could be flying into the next round. As long as American agrees with the judges.

Devon Velez kept the positive momentum going for the male contestants with his Spanish and English rendition of "It's Impossible." The judges liked Velez's singing with Urban remarking, "You are such a good singer."

The last male contestant to sing Wednesday night was Vincent Powell who sang Boyz II Men's "End of the Road." The judges were torn on his performance, but he clearly wasn't one of the top five Wednesday night.

All in all, the men were a let down compared to the top 10 women. The five best performances from Wednesday night definitely seemed to be from Curtis Finch Jr., Burnell Taylor, Devin Velez, Elijah Liu, and Lazaro Arbos. We find out Thursday night which five female and which five male contestants will be moving on to the next round.

What do Mstarz readers think? Who were the best male performers from Wednesday night's "American Idol?"
