The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, has taken her philanthropic endeavors to another level by announcing her support of More Smiles Appeal. The 33-year-old princess is not only raising awareness, but $3 million towards a goal of $15 million for the expansion of St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, West London.

Middleton released a statement saying, "The thought of your child in an intensive care unit is harrowing for any parent." And that, "The commitment to expand and transform the Children's Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary's Hospital will vitally guarantee more space to treat more children and support more families."

The expansion will allow the medical facility to accommodate at least 600 children annually. Currently, the intensive care unit has had to turn away children and their families due to lack of equipment and space, says People.

The Royal heirs, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were both born at the hospital's Lindo Wing, a private VIP area and Kate acknowledged the great care in which she received, during those births.

"Our More Smiles Appeal will enable us to upgrade our facilities and offer our exceptional care to even more patients. This unit is one of only five general children's intensive care units in London. Our campaign will save more lives and help us give even better care to more critically ill children and their families. We are most grateful for the Duchess of Cambridge's support and warm wishes," says Dr. Simon Nadel.

The Duchess wasn't the only celebrity to help with the cause; actress and writer Fay Ripley is also a supporter since her niece was treated in the intensive care unit, reported Daily Mail. Also, to help with the costs, the balance of the total cost will be covered by the Imperial College Healthcare Charity, as well as, COSMIC charity.

It's always great to be in a position of generosity, especially around the holidays. MStars News got it spot on in a previous story about Middleton using the royal platform to voice her support to charities that she is passionate about.
