On Saturday, Ohio State University took on the University of Michigan in a football game. This is a contest rich in tradition and history. People sometimes take it pretty seriously, too. So it wasn't all that surprising when Ohio governor John Kasich (R), who is also running for president, asked residents of the state to not wear pleated khakis on that day. Or all days, for that matter.

Why the pleats, you ask? Two words, one man: Jim Harbaugh. The first year Michigan coach is perhaps the only man on the planet more recognizable for a good pair of khakis than Jake from State Farm. However, it's not just that the governor prefers his khaki's without a crease; it's the statewide hatred for Michigan football, and Harbaugh's ties to the program.

The coach was the quarterback of Michigan in the 80's. He was successful, also, winnining a number of big games while finishing 3rd in the Heisman voting in 1986. After successful stints coaching at Stanford and in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, he found his way back to Ann Arbor.

Naturally, the people of Ohio were pretty fired up about it.

The Khakis thing actually isn't the first resolution of its kind, either. Back in 2013, the State of Ohio declared Scarlet Letter Saturday, an act that urged Ohioans to avoid using the 13th letter of the alphabet on the day of the game (Ohio State-Michigan), that according to Yahoo! Sports. People referred to that glove shaped state as an itch they had again, and mom was a word that kids didn't dare utter.

Ohio State-Michigan is more than a game; it's a way of life. Anything goes, too. Except the wearing of Khakis and the written use of the letter 'M.'

It's noteworthy to point out that Ohio State did win the game on Saturday. It actually wasn't much of a contest.
