"What happens in Mexico"...unfortunately isn't always beach parties in the sun, scandalous nights at the club, and tequila shots poolside this spring break season.

A 65-year old woman was killed on Tuesday when a giant rogue wave struck two American tourists strolling along the beach near the famous stone arch in the Mexican resort town of Cabo San Lucas, reports Fox News.

According to the Associated Press: U.S. State Department officials on Thursday confirmed the death of Sandra Dilland, who was returning to her hotel at Cabo San Lucas along with her unidentified 70-year-old companion when the couple was struck by a rogue wave and dragged out to sea on Tuesday.

The man, whose name has still not been released, was listed in serious condition on Wednesday, following a rescue by Navy personnel.

Authorities said Dilland had a Wisconsin driver's license and the man had one from Nebraska, but it was unclear where they were currently living or whether their families had been notified, reports Fox.

A total of 61 U.S. citizens have drowned in Mexico from January 2010 through June 2012, according to State Department statistics. Of those fatalities, three occurred in Cabo San Lucas.

Unfortunately for these beach strollers, "what happened in Mexico" turned out the be a tragic incident resulting in one tourist dead and another severely injured. Spring breakers heading to this tropical destination please be ware of the treacherous water conditions while "living it up" in paradise for a week this season.
