Kim Tae-Yeon, lead singer of South Korean K-Pop supergroup Girls' Generation, is blowing up Twitter right now with news of her 25th birthday.

Hashtags of #Happy25thTaeyeonDay abound as K-Pop fans show their support of the woman who is, arguably, K-Pop's biggest star.

Her group, Girl's Generation, formed in 2007 and quickly formed a reputation as the South Korean band. Their 2009 single "Gee" was crowned South Korea's song of the decade and they sold 11,730,000 albums and singles in 2010 alone. They are regularly referred to by South Koreans as "The Nation's Singers."

Girl's Generation are products of the notorious SM Entertainment machine. They were crafted by SM executives via a demanding training program that several of the girls joined 7 years before the group ever recorded a song. Tae-Yeon joined in 2004 and trained for three years with SM Entertainment before Girls' Generation made their debut. SM Entertainment is also home to the group's equally successful male counterpart, the 12-piece boy band Super Junior.

Tae-Yeon, who was born on this day in 1989, is 24 by Western standards. However, Koreans have a different way of calculating age. When you're born in South Korea, you are considered one. Everyone gains 1 year of age at the dawning of a new year (meaning, Tae-Yeon has technically been 25 since the beginning of the year).

What do you think? Will you be joining in the Tae-Yeon Twitter celebration? Do you have a favorite Girls' Generation jam that you'll be playing to mark the occasion?
