America's favorite Vietnam veteran of vigilante justice is venturing into his most dangerous mission – the cutthroat world of television. According to The Wrap, Fox has just closed a development deal for Rambo: New Blood, a TV series about the popular film franchise which starred Sylvester Stallone. The actor, who first gained fame in the still-continuing Rocky franchise with the latest installment Creed, will serve as the series' executive producer.

Of course, unlike other TV follow ups, like the proposed Beverly Hills Cop, Stallone will supposedly also reprise his role as the title character.

The 69-year-old appeared in all four Rambo movies which started back in 1982 with First Blood, which was based on the David Morrell novel about a former war veteran and Green Beret skilled in the art of guerrilla warfare. It wasn't until Rambo: First Blood Part II  in 1985 that his name was put in the title. The more simple heading Rambo III followed in 1988 before taking a twenty-year hiatus for the even simpler Rambo in 2008 which Stallone also directed. For the record, the renegade soldier was brought to television in 1986 as a syndicated animated series titled Rambo: The Force of Freedom, which ran for one year producing sixty five episodes.

However, this TV reboot will supposedly pay homage to the spirit of the popular films. The title New Blood will be Rambo's son J.R., an Ex-Navy Seal who no doubt has his father's penchant for hand-to-hand combat as well as weaponry.

The series will be written by The Fugitive and Die Hard  scribe Jeb Stuart and produced by eOne and Millennium Films. Rambo: New Blood  will be one of many upcoming television projects for Fox based on popular movies including Lethal Weapon, Behind Enemy Lines and Stallone's other popular franchise, The Expendables.
