Earlier in the show, Grohl performed a version of the Foo Fighters hit song "Learn to Fly" with Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem, playing the song a little differently than they had in rehearsal.

The band decided to do the performance a different way, with Grohl asking why they rehearsed in the first place.

Floyd Pepper explains, "Because if we don’t rehearse, then there’s nothing to do it different from".

The drum-off takes place in the closing credits of the episode, with Grohl saying he’s been waiting years for this to go down. Animal responds, "Now we see who best."

Animal starts the competition, but Grohl taps his cymbal and quips, "Oh, what's that, a bell? Time for school."

The two then go head-to-head in a contest that ends up with both drummers dismantling their drum kits.

The result of the drum battle is hard to call, but both were out of breath and declared, "You win."

Fans may remember that Grohl appeared as "Animool," the drummer for the tribute band The Moopets in the 2011 Muppets movie.

Episode 9 with the drum battle will air on ABC tonight at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. The episode will also include actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt singing a duet with Miss Piggy and playing cards with the other Muppets.
