The NHL may be lagging behind the other major sports in popularity, but the one thing they have on the NBA, MLB, and NFL is the fighting. Hockey players can still fight as the referee's watch and only receive five minutes in the penalty box for throwing punches. For a lot of fans, the fighting is the main attraction. This rang especially true Wednesday night in Toronto for the Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators game as Frazer McLaren knocked out David Dziurzynski.

The one problem with most hockey fight is that they usually don't involve any big KO punches. The fighters are on skates, usually still have their helmets on, and grab each other's jersey's to hinder the opponent. As a result, a lot of fights don't end the way McLaren and Dziurzynski's did.

The fight actually occurred 30 seconds into the game and it only took McLaren about 10 seconds to drop Dziurzynski to the ice with numerous shots to the head. It looked as if Dziurzynski could have been seriously injured. The Senators later announced he had a concussion.

The Maple Leafs McLaren told the National Post later that, "Any time you get into a fight, you never want to see that happen. Obviously, I hope he's OK. I asked the doctor between periods to just get word that he was all right. It was just an unfortunate incident that that happens."

McLaren also said that he was purposely looking to start a fight so he could get his team going.

"We had a flat start last game. I was just trying to get us going early," McLaren said. "I asked [Dziurzynski if he wanted to fight] and actually he said no and so I didn't think we were going to go and then he ended up dropping his stuff when the puck dropped. He's a big guy and he actually gave me a few good ones early there. It was a lucky punch. It happens sometimes."

Dziurzynski is about 6'3 and 205 pounds, but that didn't stop the 6'4 McLaren from knocking him out. Luckily, it seems, that everyone is okay. Check out the video below of McLaren's knockout of Dziurzynski.
