Nashville star, Clare Bowen, and her longtime boyfriend, Brandon Robert Young, are getting married. The 31-year-old Australian singer and actress, who plays songwriter Scarlett O'Connor on the hit country music show, became engaged while they were performing at the Grand Ole Opry. Bowen confirmed the engagement news on Twitter on Sunday, retweeting a post by Sounds Like Nashville.

The actress simply tweeted, "Thank you!"

Young, a singer and songwriter, proposed to Bowen while they were performing at The Grand Ole Opry at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

One cute photo of the couple taken by a fan in the audience and retweeted by the singer, shows Bowen sitting on the edge of the stage.

Bowen recently made headlines when she chopped off her long hair in November, opting for a cute pixie cut. She explained she decided on the big change because she heard of a little girl that wanted to look like a princess but felt she couldn't because she didn't have long hair. The actress wrote in a post on social media that she wanted the little girl and others to realize that it's your "insides that count."

The singer and actress explained that she was diagnosed at the age of 4 with end stage nephroblastoma, a kidney cancer that is common in children.

Bowen revealed, "I'd overheard the doctors telling my family that the only hope of saving me was an experimental treatment that might kill me anyway. But without it I had maybe two weeks left. And then I got really lucky. I survived, my hair grew back and I got strong again. I look relatively normal on the outside, but on the inside, I am still the same stitched back together little creature, in a world where people are judged so harshly for the way they look."

She thanked her network, ABC, for allowing her to cut her hair because her character on Nashville would now have short hair too.

Bowen added "If it makes even one person think twice about judging another, then in some small way, the world is better. Self-esteem takes a lot longer to grow back than hair."

The finale of Nashville will air at 9 p.m. Wednesday on ABC.
