Awards season is just around the corner, and the first big nominations on the road to Oscar glory are out today in the form of SAG Awards nominations. As usual, there are plenty of good picks, as well as some very big snubs.

Big winners in film included Trumbo, which leads the pack with three total nominations, while Carol, The Danish Girl, The Big Short, Steve Jobs, Room, Spotlight and Beasts of No Nation garnered two apiece. The lead for Trumbo comes as a surprise, as most pundits have it trailing on their awards list to films such as Carol and Spotlight, who seem to be overall frontrunners so far.

The big snubs in film come by way of David O. Russell's latest Oscar hopeful, Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence. The film, which is mostly seeing praise for Lawrence's performance, didn't get nominated at all.

Ditto for Ridley Scott's space adventure, The Martian, starring Matt Damon. Several Oscarologists see the film getting nominated for at least an acting nod for Damon, as well as a best picture nomination, but no such luck here.

Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight wasn't given any love either. And despite winning in some critics' circles a few weeks back, Sylvestor Stallone was left off the best supporting actor list for Creed.

Surprisingly, Rachel McAdams fared a little better. All of the Oscar buzz has been left to her Spotlight costars Michael Keaton and Mark Ruffalo, with many choosing the two to go head-to-head in the best supporting category in the next few months. It was McAdams, though, that scored a nomination for best supporting actress for the film. Spotlight is nominated in the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture category, which is the SAG equivalent to the Oscar's best picture category.

Winners will be announced when the SAG Awards air on Saturday, January 30, 2016. For a full list of nominees, including for television, see SAG's website.
