Empire co-creator Lee Daniels has reportedly nabbed Queen Latifah for his new untitled FOX series. Deadline reports that the show will center on the story of a girl group trying to make it in Atlanta's clustered music scene.

Latifah has had a busy year. She was the lead in HBO's Bessie Smith biopic and recently just finished her stint with the nationwide craze, The Wiz Live.

She will definitely bring the star power to Daniels' new show!

Billboard reports, "Latifah will play Carlotta, the owner of a beauty salon (a setting she's previously encountered through her work in Barbershop in the Barbershop Franchise) who serves as the group's reluctant mentor. Of course, her on musical talents will come into play as well."

The plot for this new series has a close connection to the FOX original series, Empire, but they are not the same.

Billboard claim that FOX Chairman and CEO Dana Walden said, "The possibility of a crossover at some point exists but it's definitely not what we're planning right now. It's a modern day music business in Atlanta, and Empire is a modern say music business in New York. It's not inconceivable that the two worlds would cross. But that's definitely not Lee's intention as we go into it."

Deadline reports, the nationwide casting call resulted in locking in up-and-comers Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, and Brittany O'Grady. Demorest is set to play Star. She is the leader of the group that has been passed around in the foster care system and will do anything to accomplish her dreams. Destiny is set to play Alexandra, the privileged student from Upper East Side of New York and will do anything to leave her lifestyle behind her to create authentic music. O'Grady plays Star's little sister, Simone, who is waiting for Star to rescue her from the abusive foster care system she was placed in five years prior.

It was earlier reported by TMZ that transgender model Amiyah Scott was to star in this show as well. It has not been reported exactly who she will play yet or if she is still involved with the show at all.
