Shortly after Tampa Bay's loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Jameis Winston, the Buccaneers quarterback, was spotted at a Publix. Apparently, Sunday is also grocery day. He was stopped by an eager fan who wanted to get a picture with the rookie quarterback. In doing so, the fan made one keen observation about Winston's cart: he was buying crab legs.

This is a big deal. Well, bigger than it should be, at least. Here's why (in case anyone doesn't remember): when Jameis Winston was in college at Florida State, he was caught allegedly stealing crab legs--an odd thing to do for a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback. Winston denied any thieving intentions, and the whole thing became a bigger story than it probably should have been. It also lead to more conspiracy theories than a Game of Thrones forum, which was good fun.

Winston gave this explanation of the incident, via Yahoo! Sports:

"Well, a week before was my buddy's birthday and we had got a cake," Winston said. "We met a dude that worked inside Publix and he said, 'Hey, anytime you come in here, I got you.' So that day, we just walked out and he hooked us up with that. And when I went to get crab legs, I did the same thing and he just gave them to me and I walked out. And someone from inside the store had told the security that I didn't pay for them and that's how the whole thing started."

Should Winston have known better than to accept that kind of offer, especially with his high profile position? Probably. However, since the incident, Winston has handled the situation well. He's done pretty well for himself with football, too.

He was the first pick of the NFL draft. He became Tampa Bay's starting quarterback (a position that was never really in question). And he's even won a few games. So when he was spotted in a Publix on Sunday--the same grocery store chain that he experienced his previous crab leg drama--one couldn't help but chuckle. It does, however, pose an interesting question: has anyone ever loved crab legs more?
