After amazing the Indian audience by the phenomenal work in Bajirao Mastani, Indian director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actor Ranveer Singh are again going to team up for a feature film. This time, however, it is not going to be some larger than life film with big palaces and heavy costumes. Instead, the duo are reportedly planning to remake Sanjay Dutt's starrer Khalnayak.

In 2013, Singh and Bhansali collaborated on Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, the Indian version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, set in violent times. Earlier this month, they both amazed their fans by Bajirao Mastani. Now according to DNA India, the Black director has offered him another film.

It was earlier reported by Hindustan Times that Bhansali has acquired the rights of Subhash Ghai's hit film, Khalnayak. Reports claimed that Bhansali has offered $1.3 million dollars to Ghai for the rights of the film that featured Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff and Dutt. Now, given the success of Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani, Bhansali is planning to offer the legendary role of Ballu Balaram to Singh.

The story of Khalnayak centers on the escape and attempted capture of criminal Ballu Balaram (Dutt) by police inspector Ram (Shroff) and a tough cop, Ganga (Dixit). The film was commercially hit and the dance and song "Choli Ke Peeche" became an instant classic for its choreography and lyrics. According to Bollywood.com, the controversial song was later used by A.R. Rahman in Danny Boyle's Academy Award Winning film, Slumdog Millionaire.

If Singh agrees to play the role of Ballu Balram, then it will be the first time the Band Baaja Baarat actor will be playing a negative role and the actor has already proved his caliber in Bajirao Mastani. Because of this, one can expect him to pull the character together quite well.

There is no other update on the remaining cast but it will be interesting to watch Singh's rumoured girlfriend Deepika Padukone playing the role of a badass cop, which was earlier played by Dixit in Ghai's Khalnayak.
