It was the car crash heard round the world when Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey was killed off the series during a season 11 episode this past April. While the star had been a beloved character, Derek Shepherd, since season 1 of the show, it seemed that he had run his course and creator Shonda Rhimes decided to breath some new life in to the show by killing off this major character. While the Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder creator has been known for making controversial choices in her series by killing off characters, it seems that Dempsey holds no ill-will towards her, and knows that it is strictly business.

According to Us Weekly, Dempsey explains that the choices Rhimes has made are very "provocative," and they are meant to get people talking about the shows.

"I think she loves being provocative, and that's fine for who she is," the star explained in a recent interview, according to USA Today. "That gets people talking about all the stuff that she's doing. She's an amazing woman who is incredibly productive. She's promoting a book. She's promoting three shows. And she's emerging as the star of all of these things."

The star also explained that when it comes to the spotlight that Rhimes knows just the right ways to play the media to her advantage.

"I think she knows how to deal with the media and what she needs to say to get the response she's looking for," the 49-year-old actor revealed, adding, "She's very savvy."

Since stepping out from behind the Derek Shepherd shadow, Dempsey reveals that he has become refreshed in his career, mentioning that his new project, Bridget Jone's Baby, has "completely reinvigorated me."

"[I'm] very happy to have moved on with a different chapter in my life," the star explained, Celeb Buzz.
