Fox has released the first look trailer to their upcoming supernatural series, Lucifer. Check out footage from the pilot starring Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar and Lauren German as Detective Chloe Dancer before its official premiere date.

As we previously mentioned, Fox has given a pilot commitment to Lucifer, from Californication creator and executive producer Tom Kapinos. Based on the comic book character created by Neil Gaiman, from The Sandman comic book series, the prince of darkness has earned his first big lead and the show will focus on his devilish lifestyle in Los Angeles. Lucifer resigns from the kingdom of Hell after becoming bored and unhappy.

The former owner of Hell gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals. With the Wales-born brunette Ellis (Rush) , Lucifer is taking a darker turn as the original comic book character was modeled after music icon, David Bowie. The pilot was written by Kapinos and directed by Len Wiseman (Sleepy Hollow).

According to Tech Times, the footage presents Lucifer (Ellis) as he exits a bar with a mysterious woman on his arm. Caught off-guard, the two are suddenly gunned down in a hail of bullets. Because Lucifer is an immortal, he survives the shootout but gets the unwanted attention of the LAPD.

The supernatural show has garnered a bit of controversy even before its premiere. Because Satan is depicted as "a good guy," The One Million Moms organization has set up a petition against the Fox drama, asking the network to have the series dropped. Even though they haven't seen the pilot, the group argues that they're upset that the series seems to glorify Satan.

Check out what Twitter had to say about the Lucifer pilot after watching a special screening at the recent New York Comic Con:

Lucifer premieres on Fox on January 25, 2016.

Readers, are you excited to see Lucifer?
