Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is reportedly working on biopic on Indian actor Sanjay Dutt and if recent reports are to be true, then the upcoming biopic will follow the same path as Munnabhai series did. Not only this, the film is likely to release during the festive season in 2017.

Hirani's debut film, Munnabhai MBBS was released in Dec. 19, 2003, while his previous two films, 2009 comedy 3 Idiots and last years's PK was released on Dec. 25 and Dec. 19, respectively. So, the acclaimed director wants Dutt's biopic to be released around the same time.

In a recent press event, when it was asked if the biopic will also be released around the Christmas time, Hirani was quoted by DNA India as responding:

"We will begin shooting mid next year, roughly around June. So yeah, (the film will release) roughly around that time only. It will take that much time, one-one and a half years, so yes."

In November, it was reported by Indian Express that Tamasha actor, Ranbir Kapoor has been signed to play the reel Dutt. Hirani, who will be working for the very first time with Kapoor said that Kapoor is among those actors in Bollywood who knows Dutt very well and he will play the role magnificently.

"Ranbir Kapoor knows Sanjay Dutt well and he knows all his stories. Internally he will play him well and within five minutes if the audience are hooked onto the film, it will not make a difference as to who is playing what in the film," Hirani added.

The 53-year-old Dutt, has been convicted in the 1993 Mumbai Blasts case for illegal possession of weapons, is currently serving the rest of his sentence in Yerwarda Cetral Prison, reported NDTV. When it was asked to Hirani, that whether they are going to show this side of actor's life, the filmmaker compared Academy Award Winning film, Gandhi, to the biopic they are working on and said that they are going to show only those sides of Dutt's life which are very important to him and to his fans.

"When you make a biopic, the life of the person is so vast that it cannot be shrunk into three hours. I loved Gandhi. It was a beautiful film. However, Gandhi's personal life was not touched in the movie. Similarly, even in Sanjay Dutt's biopic we will only touch those portions which we feel are important," Hirani added.
