Given the fame surrounding Kristen Stewart and her "Twilight" sweetheart Robert Pattinson, did fans ever know that K-Stew's mom Jules Stewart is a prominent figure in the film industry, too? Well, she is, and she's set to make her directorial debut with the LGBT-inspired film, "K-11." The movie, which takes place in a section of the Los Angeles County Jail reserved for homosexuals, was set to star 22-year-old Stewart as the multiple-rape victim, Butterfly. Because K-Stew harbors an intense "dark side," her mom thought she'd be perfect for the role. But because Stewart's fame skyrocketed after the first "Twilight" film, Jules encouraged her to go film Rupert Sanders' "Snow White and the Huntsman" instead, to help achieve her ultimate career dreams. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Jules Stewart explains why she decided to take on such a difficult and controversial film topic:

"I can't watch Spider-Man anymore. I just can't watch six variations of the same thing -- it just makes me a little crazy." She wanted to d something a little more unique and different - even meaningful.

And that's where "K-11" comes in, a dramatic film which "explores the politics of race and gender equality through Raymond Saxx (Goran Visnjik)Visnjik), a businessman who is forced to deal with violence, crooked cops and a manipulative transgendered inmate named Mousey (Kate Del Castillo) on his quest to escape K-11, all while piecing together how he ended up there in the first place."

The Youtube description describes the plot as:

Raymond Saxx Jr. (Goran Visnjic from "ER" "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "Beginners"), a powerful record producer wakes from a drug-induced blackout to find himself locked up in K-11, the section of the Los Angeles County Men's Central jail for gay and transgender inmates. Plunged into a nightmarish world ruled by a transsexual diva named Mousey (Kate del Castillo, La Reina del Sur; "Weeds"), Raymond is truly a fish out of water. Complicating matters are a troubled young transgender named Butterfly (Portia Doubleday, Kimberly Peirce's Carrie, Almost Kings), a predatory child molester (Tommy 'Tiny' Lister, The Dark Knight) and the ruthless Sheriff's Deputy, Lt. Johnson (D.B. Sweeney, Hard Ball, Atlas Shrugged: Part II). Ray's struggle to contact the outside world and regain his freedom seems impossible, so he must learn to navigate this new power structure if he is ever going survive and regain control of his life.

In Jules' own words - "In the dorm, there's no racial issues -- they're all gay or transgender. That's what holds them together. So race is not an issue, which was a big message in this film. . . It doesn't matter what color you are, everybody is the same."

Six years ago, Stewart's young daughter and aspiring actress Kristen was set to star in the role as Butterfly (now played by Portia Doubleday). But after K-Stew's "Twilight" fame, Jules encouraged her to film the blockbuster hit "SWATH" -

"She kept working and she kept working and she kept working," Jules explains. "And she got really big and we were still really small and I was like, 'Go! Go do Snow White, please, go make those big films honey, that's wonderful!'"

The "On the Road" starlet does have a small part in "K-11," playing a secretary who picks up a very important phone call. Although she didn't snag one of the leads, Jules thinks K-Stew would have done the part justice if given the chance - "Kristen has a dark side... Kristen has the edge -- thank god, right?"

"K-11" hits theaters throughout 15 US cities on March 15 and will be available On Demand through local cable companies. Visit the film's official website for more info.
