11 Worst Airports in America: New York Airports LaGuardia, Newark, JFK Make Top 10

Majority of those deemed as the worst airports in America, like New York's Newark, LaGuardia and JFK International, are based on polls and surveys done by travellers. Although one's experience may greatly impact your airport decisions, it's still nothing compared to actual scientific data.

Luckily, analysts from Travelmath have found a way to rank the worst airports in America based on numerical figures. Making use of January to August 2015 data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, analysts were able to empirically rank 322 airports across the country.

The ranking relied on six key factors: number of cancelled flights, number of delays, average flight delay time, the amount of time it takes the plane to taxi to the gate, average fare, and even the number of TSA claims.

Unfortunately for the Big Apple, three of their well-known airports - JFK, Newark and LaGuardia - have found themselves within the top ten worst airports in the U.S.

A number of airports from other states, such as the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport in Colorado and Columbia Regional in Missouri, were also on the list, although it's primarily because of the large amount of cancelled flights.

3. Washington Dulles International (Dulles, Virginia)

4. Chicago O'Hare International (Chicago, Illinois)

5. Northwest Arkansas Regional (Bentonville, Arkansas)

6. Columbia Regional (Columbia, Missouri)

7. Aspen-Pitkin County (Aspen, Colorado)

8. John F. Kennedy International (New York, New York)

9. Dallas/Fort Worth International (Dallas, Texas)

10. McGhee Tyson (Knoxville, Tennessee)

11. George Bush Intercontinental/Houston (Houston, Texas)
