Season 2 of Amazon Studio's Mozart in the Jungle arrives fresh off the show's two Golden Globe nominations (Best Comedy Series and Best Comedy Actor for Gael Garcia Bernal), and the first reviews have poured in. Just what do critics think about Bernal's second outing as Rodrigo, the fictional version of Gustavo Dudamel?

Variety calls the second season of the classical music-themed show a "pleasant enough addition to Amazon's playlist," marking once again the familiar terrain the show has had since its release last year – it's the dark horse of the website turned studio.

However, the magazine also says it exists "in that nether realm that's interesting, but seldom genuinely funny or truly dramatic," in all calling the venture somewhat bland, so much so that it actually missed out on the Emmy nominations earlier this year, so the show's two nods on the Globes were quite an upset.

The New York Times' review of the second season follows the same general feeling, calling it "larky" and only "occasionally sharp-witted," though then going on to say the season feels "slacker than did the first," now that it's been a year since the show first premiered on Amazon.

It seems like the website/growing streaming giant doesn't have high hopes when it comes to bringing large audiences in for the show, as it's usually released around New Year's Eve, when everyone's too busy with the holidays to even notice new launches, something The AV Club points out while speaking about the show's "confidence in its own world," which it calls its best quality.

The show, helmed by Hollywood family royalty Mike Coppola and Jason Schwartzman (cousins who are part of the legendary Coppola family), is going on its second season and it has become quite the niche situation, as it's obviously not made for a large audience but rather the smaller one that enjoys classical music references and their brand of quirky storytelling.

Let's remember both Coppola and Schwartzman are fetish collaborators of Wes Anderson's.

In all, if you're into classical music references and the quirky cinematic experience, by all means, check out the Season 2 of Mozart!
