The first-ever Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., has gotten consistently more interesting with each story arch, and the midseason finale in early December revealed a new path for a member of the show's original team, Grant Ward (Brett Dalton). Now, Jed Whedon is talking about the show and the possibilities for Skye and Ward.

Jed Whedon, the showrunner of the MCU series, recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the unraveling of Ward's fate, as in the midseason finale of the show, his (dying or dead) body was inhabited by a weird Inhuman with superpowers that are both terrifying and still not fully comprehensible.

In the first season of the show, Ward and the character formerly known as Skye (Chloe Bennet, who's now known as Daisy Johnson or Quake) had a whole arch of romantic rapport that never did come to anything. Then, as the rest of the characters discovered that Ward had been loyal to HYDRA all along, their chances seemed buried deep into geek dreams. However, people still ask the showrunners whether "SkyeWard" might still make it as a couple. It does bear noting that other fans were groaning on social media that the Ward character is even still on the show.

"Now she's not Skye and he's not Ward," Whedon said with a laugh, referring to how Daisy's now an Inhuman and Ward was possessed by an Inhuman, via Hypable. "He has changed, but just as we saw with Will, there was still some of Will left in him. They're both altered humans at this point. I don't know."

In the "Maveth" midseason finale, Will (Dillon Casey) has been killed by the strange Inhuman inhabiting the faraway planet, but after it took possession of the astronaut, it actually maintained its memories, so it can be assumed that Ward might also remember some of the things he did before he, well, died.

It's going to be a pretty long time until fans know what happens next. Unfortunately, the show won't return to ABC until March 8. Tell us what your guesses are for Ward and Daisy going forward.
