Jennifer Lopez's highly-anticipated new drama "Shades of Blue" premieres on Thursday (January 7). But did Emmy Award winner Ray Liotta almost deny a starring role because of the 46-year-old singer's diva-esque behavior?

In a recent TV Guide magazine interview, 61-year-old Liotta admits that he didn't initally want to work with the popular Hollywood fashionista:

"My biggest fear was that this was going to be 'The J.Lo Show.'"

Ouch.

Basically, Liotta feared that Lopez wanted too much control, considering she also helped produced the upcoming NBC series. The entire situation made him a little nervous, since "everybody across the board" would be working with AND under the "Enough" beauty.

But ultimately, Liotta decided to "roll the dice" and take a chance. He's definitely not disappointed:

"I met Jen and she was open. Not like, 'This is my show.' None of that from her," Liotta jokingly muses. "If anything, Jen was a cool chick on the set and I was the diva!"

Meanwhile, Lopez also enjoys working with the renowned "Goodfellas" actor:

"You needed a strong, tough guy like Liotta," she explains. "He delivers on all levels. He is perfect."

Also, Lopez doesn't think she has too much studio attitude! Even as an "American Idol" judge, she was “just an emotional, happy person who was actually nice." The "First Love" superstar also insists:

"I’m very normal and kind of down to earth" (via GossipCop.com).

Here's a brief summary of the show's plot:

Harlee Santos (Lopez) is an NYPD detective and single mother struggling with financial problems. When she is caught up in an FBI anti-corruption probe, she must choose between doing the right thing for her daughter or covering up for her corrupt police co-workers.
