Steve Harvey Denies Miss Universe Gaffe Was Publicity Stunt [VIDEO]

Steve Harvey talked about the Miss Universe flub on his talk show, slamming claims that his major gaffe at the pageant was a publicity stunt. The comedian pointed out that he was already famous even before the mistake, so he doesn't need more attention.

When Harvey announced the wrong winner while hosting the highly-anticipated annual pageant, mistakenly crowning Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez when the winner was actually Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, many suggested that his mishap was just a publicity stunt.

The real winner may have been Miss Philippines but plenty of hearts went out to Miss Colombia. Harvey claims that he reached out to Gutierrez but to no avail.

According to Atlanta Journal Constitution, the 58-year-old took to his radio show to deny the allegations and set the record straight.

“Why the hell would I do that?” he said. “I’m already famous. Do you really think I wanted to be famous like this?”

Harvey revealed that someone was feeding him information on his earphone and he was told that he's got to do something about the mistake.

He then took it upon himself to walk back on stage and to correct the mishap. "Did I make a mistake? Yes I did," he admitted. "Wholeheartedly. At this point in the game I’m not in the finger-pointing business and rolling other people under the bus.”

Ariadna Gutierrez is now sharing her side of the story, pointing out that the mishap didn't only embarrass her but it made her feel that Miss Universe didn't even care.
