Court documents show that the alleged killer at the center of Netflix’s Making a Murderer, Steven Avery, believed that his brothers or other family members possibly framed him for murder. Steven now claimed that it could have been one of his two brothers who killed Teresa Halbach.

Avery alleged that his brothers' motive was to frame him for money, as they expect to see a multi-million dollar settlement for a wrongful conviction of sexual assault. He also mentioned that they were fighting over their family business.

Avery and Brendan Dassey were convicted of the murder of Halbach in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, in October 2005. She was a photographer who disappeared the same day that she met with him for a photo shoot for Auto Trader Magazine. Dassey, Avery's 16-year-old nephew initially confessed to sexually assaulting Halbach and cutting her throat on his uncle's orders. He later revealed that he was pressured to confess.

TMZ obtained court documents filed in 2009 stating that both of Avery's brothers Earl and Charles have a history of sexual assault. Earl once pleaded no contest to sexually assaulting his daughters and Charles was once charged with sexually assaulting his wife.

Avery has been maintaining his innocence after all these years and he's consistently claiming that he was framed for Halbach's murder.

The 53-year-old spent his time in prison studying law and sued the police on his own in 2012 -- not for framing him, but for damaging his car while they were examining it during the murder case.
