The Buffalo Bills have a new head coach: Rex Ryan — but have they made a huge mistake? The NFL team announced today the former New York Jets coach would become their 18th head coach, and that they had finalized their deal that is thought to be worth more than $5 million a year for the defensive specialist. Ryan was also head coaching option for the Atlanta Flacons and San Francisco 49ers — who parted ways with Mike Smith and Jim Harbaugh respectively — but who were beaten to the punch by the Bills, who, following a change in ownership, had been ditched by coach Doug Marrone (who had an out clause in his contract) after the 2014 season ended. The New York Jets have fired Rex Ryan. The controversial head coach had already reportedly cleaned out his desk, and Jets owner Woody Johnson today obliged both Rex and General Manager John Idzik by parting ways with the pair. This year the Jets went 4-12, the worst record the team has posted since 2007, and once again missed the NFL playoffs making it their fourth season in a row without postseason action. The Jets have hired two former NFL GMs - Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf - to oversee their new hires, while speculation is mounting that Rex Ryan could head to the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders or Chicago Bears.
