DC's Legends of Tomorrow premieres on Thursday, January 21, but we've got plenty of spoilers to sift through before that time. The latest news is that Jewel Staite has been cast as a future genius named Rachel Turner.

TVLine first exclusively reported that Staite, who has starred in Firefly and Stargate Atlantis (and if you really want to go back a ways, Space Cases on Nickelodeon), will guest star on the upcoming spinoff of Arrow and The Flash as a tech genius and roboticist who lives in a future time in which technology has an even greater influence on our lives than it does in the present day.

She is a descendant of a lengthy line of inventors, including a DC Universe character. Turner believes that she can improve the world through her inventions, but it turns out that Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) will eventually use her tech to his own twisted ends. Therefore, Turner teams up with the Legends team to stop him.

Staite joins a list of Legends of Tomorrow guest stars that includes Matt Nable (who played Ra's al Ghul in Season 3 of Arrow), Neal McDonough (who is currently portraying Damien Darhk on Season 4 of Arrow), Stephanie Corneliusse (Mr. Robot) and Ali Liebert (Strange Empire).

Staite's character raises some interesting questions about the nature of Legends of Tomorrow -- specifically the effects of time travel. If Turner and the Legends stop Vandal Savage from taking her technology, how does that affect the future? Does he simply find another way to take over the world? And when the Legends travel to different times, does Savage remember seeing them? Will he recall their efforts to stop him in, say, 1950 when they see him again in 2150?

My head hurts.
