Did 'The Force Awakens' Steal Its Most Shocking Scene From An Old 'Star Wars' Videogame?

There were several shocking scenes in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, from Lor San Tekka's untimely demise at the hands of Kylo Ren to the death and resurrection of Resistance pilot Poe Dameron. However, the biggest shocker in Episode VII is the murder of Harrison Ford's Han Solo by his own son despite the fact that a similar scene has been featured in a Star Wars videogame 5 years ago!

According to GeekTyrant, the death of Han was originally foretold in the 2010 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. Part of the gameplay takes place in the Battle of Endor, where the player can choose the Dark Side and kill characters like Ewoks, Chewbacca and even Han. The video below shows how Starkiller first defeats the Wookie before taking on Han.

Looks familiar? The scene bears a striking resemblance to how Kylo stabs his own father with his crossguard lightsaber after tricking him into thinking that he will leave the Dark Side.

Although it is highly unlikely that director J.J. Abrams and writer Lawrence Kasdan decided to steal the Force Unleashed scene and used it for The Force Awakens, it seems like Han has a tendency of getting impaled by red lightsabers in the Star Wars Universe.

The death of Han may have happened a little too early for fans who were hoping to see more of their favorite character, but Ford has famously wanted him to meet his end in Return of the Jedi. Han's death was postponed because director George Lucas needed the film to end with a happy ending.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have killed off one of the heroes from the original trilogy, but it may have been the right move. The film is currently the third highest-grossest movie of all time, a feat it has accomplished after only a month of release.
