There is little debate over the fact that Black Widow is one of the most interesting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The spy played by Scarlett Johansson was a scene stealer in Iron Man 2, and since then, fans have been asking for a standalone film starring Natasha Romanoff. But will Marvel consider giving Black Widow her own movie?

Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo evidently like that idea. During an international press tour, the brothers were asked if they would be interested in seeing a film about Black Widow and they only had positive answers.

"Oh yeah, we love that character," Joe says, to which Anthony adds, "And we love Scarlett."

The Russo brothers are undoubtedly big fans of Black Widow, as Joe elaborates on what they like so much about the character.

"We find that the character is one of the richest, if not the richest, character in the Marvel universe," he said. "She's a very complex character. She's haunted by demons and her understanding of the world is fascinating. I think there is a lot that can be done with that character."

In the comic books, Black Widow has a long and complicated backstory, as she initially starts out as a Russian spy and villain to Iron Man. She eventually defects to the United States and joins S.H.I.E.L.D. after falling in love with Hawkeye, a romance that has been avoided in MCU. Nevertheless, Natasha has been connected to several superheroes including the Winter Soldier, Daredevil and Hercules.

But will Black Widow ever star in her very own Marvel movie considering her amazing backstory? Although it seems unlikely that Marvel would change its movie line up for the next few years, the studio has previously added Ant-Man and the Wasp to its Phase 3 roster so they might reconsider giving the character her own solo film. Hopefully, Marvel president Kevin Feige will decide on giving the Avengers' feistiest member her big break soon.
