Ridley Scott, fresh off his Golden Globe win for The Martian, has already moved on to his next project: Alien: Covenant. Speaking about the Prometheus sequel, the legendary science fiction director has revealed that the Michael Fassbender film, following Alien universe tradition, is being planned as an R-Rated movie.

According to The Independent, Scott started talking about his upcoming sequel not long after bagging the Globe. Speaking backstage at the awards show, the Blade Runner director was asked about his plans for the film, the second in a planned series of films set before the events of the original Alien movie, including the rating they were aiming for, revealing he wanted a "pretty hard R" one.

"I always remember walking down the edge in Saint Louis when we were previewing [Alien]," the director told a room full of reporters last Sunday. "I couldn't sit through the film one more time. I walked down the edge into the kitchen scene when John Hurt started to bring up his breakfast. That moment, I realized how pretty scary the film was... I felt a sense of responsibility that I had gone too far because it was extreme. I'm going to try and do that again this year, but much worse."

So, to be clear, there will be something worse than this in Alien: Covenant.

Coming Soon reports that the film's future R-rating is hardly surprising: out of the entire seven-film Alien universe, only one of the movies hasn't received that rating, namely 2004's Alien vs. Predator. The only film in the franchise to have a PG-13 rating, the Paul W.S. Anderson film also holds 21 percent "Rotten" in critics site Rotten Tomatoes.

Scott is already working on Covenant, as he revealed last Sunday that he was heading down to Australia the day after to begin production of the film, which will begin shooting in about two months. Barely a few days later, it was revealed that the filmmaker failed to receive an Oscar nod for his work directing The Martian.
