Fans of the successful video game, Assassin's Creed, are understandably excited for the upcoming film adaptation, which will not only star critically acclaimed actor, Michael Fassbender, but will also be produced by the X-Men: Apocalypse star. Although not much is known about the lead character, Callum Lynch, Fassbender recently opened up about his mysterious role.

The Shame actor shared a few details about Callum with GeekTyrant and admitted that the character has had a difficult past even before he found out about his abilities.

"He is an outsider," Fassbender said of the character. "He's been institutionalized from his early teens. He's a little bit of a lost soul of sorts. He starts to identify [his] lineage and where he comes from in a way."

It was previously rumored that Fassbender would portray Desmond Miles, the lead character from the video game. However, the identity of Fassbender's role was confirmed to be a character created solely for the film. Here's the first look at Fassbender's character in Assassin's Creed.

That doesn't mean that Callum has no previous ties to the video game. He shares the same abilities with the game's Desmond and is able to relive the adventures of his ancestor named Aguilar, a member of the secret Assassins society.

Fassbender also spoke about what it was like working on Assassin's Creed.

"It was great. It was a huge learning experience," he said. "To be a producer on it as well was very educational."

In addition to that, The Macbeth star offered a hint about what to look forward to in the film.

"I think we've got something special," Fassbender said. "I think we've done something original in this genre."

Assassin's Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel and also features Fassbender's Macbeth costar, Marion Cotillard. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson, Jeremy Irons and Michael K. Williams and is scheduled for release on December 21.
