The Coachella 2013 lineup has a new update! The former 'Velvet Underground' frontman, Lou Reed, has reportedly cancelled a number of US tour dates in California, including his two performance sets at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival next month, states Rolling Stone.

As well as his appearances at Coachella Weekend One (April 12) and Weekend Two (April 19), Reed has cancelled shows at San Francisco's Warfield (April 14), the Monterey Golden State Theatre (April 16) and Los Angeles' Orpheum (April 17).

"His show has been cancelled due to unavoidable complications," the Orpheum event's web page notes. Refunds for the latter two shows are "available at point of purchase," per show promoter Goldenvoice. He has no other current dates listed and there are no other details provided.

According to NME, earlier this month, Lou Reed surprised fans in New York when he made an appearance at a playback of his seminal album 'Transformer'. Fans of Reed had gathered in a New York bar for a playback of the LP on March 4 and were shocked to see a familiar figure in the room.

The vinyl listening session was the first of its kind in New York, with organisers High50.com having enjoyed success with the idea in London. High50.com founder and creative director Robert Campbell said Reed appeared to listen to the album, before later discussing with fans the album's best moments and wider cultural significance.

Although Lou will no longer be attending, other performers at next month's Coachella Festival include Stone Roses, Blur, Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, The Postal Service, The xx, Airborne Toxic Event, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Check out the Coachella website for the complete lineup and festival details.
