If you grew up watching Nickelodeon's cartoon block Splat, the kids' network is launching something just for you: a NickToons movie! Paramount and Nick have just hired Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess and his co-writer wife Jarusha to create a massive film with all the 90s characters from the block, including the likes of Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life and more!

Deadline was the first to report on the upcoming project, a revival of some of the most popular cartoon characters Nickelodeon has ever had. The idea was first pitched by Ali Mendes, who works with one of the producing companies behind the project, Disruption Entertainment.

Mendes, who grew up watching these cartoons, came up with the notion of bringing them all together in the same universe. So far, besides the aforementioned shows, other cartoons associated are Aaahh! Real Monsters and The Angry Beavers, though there are plenty more shows from that time that they could choose from, which is to say: please, please, PLEASE add Doug, too.

According to Polygon, Paramount has compared the project to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? in the sense that it will combine different styles, though it seems unclear whether there will also be cartoons+live action there as well. The project is still pretty early in development, it seems, so there's no word on how exactly the story would go down and how they'll make sense blending the characters in.

This isn't Nickelodeon's first foray into nostalgia. Late last year, the channel also announced it would be putting a 90s programming block back on TeenNick on weeknights, and there's also another project in development from that time: a film based on Hey, Arnold!

It's a high time for remakes or revisiting 90's shows. Netflix is about to launch a new gender-switched version of family series Full House, and Showtime is currently producing a sequel to David Lynch's Twin Peaks.
