It might have taken James Corden a little while to find his place in late-night television on the Late Late Show, but now that he's a household name in the U.S., the British actor has been tapped to host the Tony Awards.

Corden, 37, was announced as the host of the 70th awards for Broadway productions in a recent press release on its website.

This won't be Corden's first time at the Tonys. In  2012 he won a Tony as Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for One Man, Two Guvnors.

"James is one of those rare performers whose gifts translate perfectly to both the Broadway stage and the television screen, making him the ideal choice to host the Tony Awards," said the presidents of the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing in a statement. "The last time he was at the Tonys, he went home with one. We think he'll have even more fun as host. This is going to be one unforgettable show."

As the BBC reports, Corden's filling some big shoes: Last year's show was co-hosted by stage veterans Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming. Other hosts include Hugh Jackman, How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris and Angela Lansbury.

This year's Tony Awards will be broadcast live Sunday, June 12 on CBS from the Beacon Theater in New York.
