Ever since Gilmore Girls ended its run, the actress who played Sookie, Melissa McCarthy, has been in two shows (Samantha Who? and Mike & Molly) and turned into a movie megastar, with an Academy Award nomination to her name and a Ghostbusters reboot coming out this year. As Amy Sherman-Palladino returns to her Netflix revival, all eyes are on McCarthy: will she return to Stars Hollow?

As it turns out, the answer to that is probably not, but not because of her busy schedule: McCarthy was just not invited to come back to the show!

According to Vanity Fair, McCarthy took to Twitter last Tuesday to dish on whether she would be appearing on the upcoming reboot, saying that "sadly no one asked [her] or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow," which just seems like a terrible thing to do.

Still, right after the Gilmore Girls revival was announced, Sherman-Palladino had spoken to TV Line about the project, and the outlet obviously asked whether they were expecting to get McCarthy back.

"The thing I have said [to McCarthy's team] is, 'Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I'll write her a scene," said Sherman-Palladino, acknowledging McCarthy's busy schedule. "Melissa was one of us. If she has a spare moment to run over -- even if for just a cameo -- we would be totally game. And if it's a last-minute thing, I would write her in and we would figure it out. That's the way we left it."

In all, this could be a misunderstanding like the one between the Olsen twins and John Stamos last year, after Fuller House was announced. At the time, Mary-Kate and Ashley had said they hadn't been asked to participate in the Netflix reboot, and in the end it turned out that the Uncle Jesse actor had been in contact with some of the twins' reps, who in turn hadn't spoken to them about it.

Hopefully, McCarthy and Sherman-Palladino have realized the confusion by now and are currently in talks to have her join Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel -- fingers crossed!
