Multi-talented movie star Danny DeVito has done his share of voice work in the past, including a hilarious rendition of Hercules' trainer, Philoctetes, in the Disney movie, but there's one role he has yet to play: a Pokémon. Now, a new petition is begging Nintendo to cast the actor in the English-speaking lead role of the 3DS game, Detective Pikachu, and it sounds kind of amazing.

According to Kotaku, fans of the iconic Nintendo character have launched a Change.org petition to have DeVito voice the electric-type Pokémon, the most famous species from Nintendo's long-running franchise. At the time this article was written, over 42,000 people had signed to have the Batman Returns Penguin voicing the detective version of Pikachu.

Of course, there's also an accompanying video mash-up of what it'd be like to have DeVito voicing the cute little Pokémon: YouTube user Tealhollow1 created a video dubbing some of Pikachu's actions from lines DeVito has said in previous works, and it's kind of magical.

As Cinema Blend reports, the upcoming Pikachu Detective game will see the Pokemon talking for a change. In a story fairly similar to that of the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring British show, Sherlock, the Pokemon teams up with a little boy named Tim to solve crimes together, in what the website describes as "a cross between The Adventures of TinTin and Professor Layton," and on the original Japanese version, the traditionally cute Pokemon is voiced by an older man.

In any case, 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, and, as Yahoo! News reports, Nintendo's got a whole big thing planned out for these creatures, including not only Detective Pikachu but also re-releasing the first three games (Red, Blue and Yellow) and even releasing Pokémon movies online.

Could DeVito be truly added to the Pokemon family? Let's just hope Nintendo listens up, DeVito can do amazing things!
