Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio, two of Hollywood's biggest stars and most respected actors, filmed a movie nearly 20 years ago, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, and have never worked together since... and now that the Jack Sparrow actor has revealed that he "tortured" DiCaprio when they were starring in the movie, could it be that they've hated each other since then?

While DiCaprio is apparently on the road to finally winning an Oscar, People Magazine reports that Depp received a prize of his own, the Maltin Modern Master Award, for his outstanding film career. Accepting the award, the 52-year-old Academy nominee spoke about his past experiences in movies, including working with DiCaprio when he was a 19-year-old.

"It was a hard time for me, that film, for some reason. I don't know why... I tortured him. I really did," Depp said of DiCaprio at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival last week. "He was always talking about these videos games, you know? I told you it was kind of a dark period. 'No, I will not give you a drag of my cigarette while you hide from your mother again, Leo.'"

While Depp didn't go into specifics, it does sound like he was pretty mean to the man who'd go on to play Jack Dawson in Titanic. Still, DiCaprio's eagerness at the time paid off: his performance as Depp's brother in Gilbert Grape gave him his first-ever Oscar nod.

According to Time Magazine, Depp went on to say that he respected DiCaprio for his work in that film, saying he "spent a lot of time researching," but seeing as the two have never worked together since (nor even been photographed), it doesn't seem as though DiCaprio was equally impressed with Depp's manners.

So far, DiCaprio has been nominated for six Academy Awards, including competing against Depp in 2005, when he was up for The Aviator and Depp for Finding Neverland. He's also tipped to win later this month for his work in the Alejandro González Iñárritu film The Revenant, while Depp was snubbed of a nomination this year for his work in Black Mass.
