The hearing in the case of Serial's Adnan Syed ended Tuesday. According to Syed's defense lawyer, the defense "proved" their case that legal failures such as a key witness never being called to testify, misleading cell phone data and more justify a new trial for Syed.

Syed and his case became famous after the podcast Serial and its host Sarah Koenig brought national attention to the decades-old murder. Syed is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his high school love, Hae Min Lee.

Thanks in part to the podcast and national attention, Syed was granted permission to present new evidence in the post-conviction hearings that ended Tuesday. Attorney for Syed, Justin Brown, said of the hearings, "We proved our case. We did exactly what we said we would. I believe we met our burden and that Mr. Syed deserves a new trial."

During the hearings, Brown argued that the famous cell tower data (highly scrutinized in the podcast, and some of the main evidence used against Syed in the original trial) was misleading since jurors were not warned ahead of time just how unreliable information about incoming calls at the time could be.

He also argued that Asia McClain, who claimed to see Syed at the library at the time the murder was supposedly taking place, was never called.

McClain, now Asia Chapman, testified in the new hearings that she did in fact see Syed at the library, and even had a conversation with him. Speaking to ABC News after the hearing, she says she feels like she did her part but that the decision ultimately lies with the judge. "I hope that enough information was presented to the judge for him to be able to make a rational decision," she said. "Whatever that might be, is in his hands."

Still, despite Serial, the victim's family and new prosecutor to the case, Deputy Attorney General Thiru Vignarajahnow, still say Syed is guilty. A statement from Lee's family reads, "Unlike those who learn about this case on the Internet, we sat and watched every day of both trials - so many witnesses, so much evidence." Asia McClain, they said, "did not know Hae, and because of Adnan she never will."
