Aziz Ansari's 'Master of None' Renewed for Season 2 on Netflix

Last year, Aziz Ansari released his latest project, a single-camera Netflix dramedy in the half-hour format, Master of None. The semi-biographical series, which deals with being an early-30s New Yorker as well as a struggling actor from a minority, was praised for its keen take on diversity and its honest portrayal of relationships. Now it has been renewed for season 2!

According to EnGadget, Ansari shared news of the show's renewal on his Twitter account, along with a short clip of the 10 episode titles of the entire first season. There will be no new season coming out in 2016, but 2017 will definitely see Dev & company return to the small screen.

It took Netflix a surprising amount of time to renew the show for a second season. The streaming site's flagship show, House of Cards, recently got renewed for a fifth season weeks before the fourth one comes out, and prison dramedy Orange is the New Black was recently confirmed for a fifth, sixth and seventh season.

Still, this wouldn't be the first time Netflix has taken a little too long in securing a second part of one of their shows. AKA Jessica Jones, their second Marvel Cinematic Universe original series after Daredevil, had been available for a couple of months before it was tapped to return.

Slash Film calls Ansari's show "at its best when it gets specific," and the series does have a quality to it about plainly explaining small details of everyday life. From its take on how relationships will evolve over months to its in-depth analysis of serious subjects like casual racism and sexist culture, the series is a breath of fresh air in the very overdone format of half-hour sitcoms.
