Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith have raised some eyebrows in years past for their comments on their parenting style. Now that the kids are young adults, Smith says, it all might have been a mistake... sort of.

In a relaxed and light-hearted interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra's presenter, A.Dot, the host praises Smith on his son Jaden and daughter Willow and their "freedom of expression." When asked if that was something he and Jada consciously encouraged, Smith joked, "Yeah, I think it might have been a mistake," adding, "we may have gone too far."

Jaden, in particular, has recently made headlines for his gender-bending appearance modeling for Louis Vuitton's women's wear, donning a skirt in the process. When asked how he handles jokes made at his son's expense Smith says:

"Jaden is 100 percent fearless, he will do anything. So as a parent it's scary, it's really terrifying - but he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions and he just doesn't concern himself with what people think."

In a different interview with News.au, Smith said he was not a fan of the skirt idea. He explained, "Jaden has his own clothing line and then he started wearing a skirt."

Smith added, "Then I was like, 'OK. You cannot wear a skirt.' He said to me, 'Dad, it's fine. It's going to be so hot all the kids will be wearing it.' I said, 'No, the kids are not going to do it because their parents will have sense enough to not let them do it.' But he's confident in who he is and who he wants to be."

Later on in the interview with the BBC, Smith says things are a little different, and more difficult, when it comes to Willow. He admits that he and Jada have been struggling with Willow's curfew. He says he tries to have the same rules between the kids, but it's "a different world" for a 15-year-old girl than it is for a 17-year-old boy who can travel in a pack of boys or a "small army," as Smith puts it.

Smith is also father to 23-year-old Trey Smith from a different relationship.
