Amy Schumer, from Trainwreck, is one of the hottest names in stand-up comedy these days, and the fact that she's best friends with Oscar-winning superstar Jennifer Lawrence certainly helps. Schumer's gotten into some heavy waters over a recent joke; after talking about Taylor Swift's thigh gap, she's being accused of body shaming.

The issue began when Schumer took to her Instagram page to share a snap of herself with a friend at the beach. The picture, which referenced Swift's leggy red carpet during last Monday's Grammy Awards, was simply captioned: "Taylor that's not a thigh gap. This is a thigh gap."

Of course, social media exploded in criticism towards the Inside Amy Schumer star, with many users taking to the comments section of the picture to call her out on body shaming Swift, who had just bagged the Best Album of the Year prize at the awards show.

Hollywood Life was quick to point out that this was a low blow against the "Bad Blood" singer, who's now in the latest wave of her years-long very public feud with Kanye West. Besides, before winning big at the Grammys, Swift had a bit of a meltdown after performing her hit, "Out of the Woods," as her best friend, Selena Gomez, comforted her after missing a note.

Still, Schumer was not backing down from her joke. The comedy megastar took to Instagram once more to comment on the wave of criticism that hit her after referencing Swift's thigh gap. Sharing a snap of herself with a fake beard and a wig, Schumer hit back to critics.

"That's not a beard this is a beard. So sorry to anyone with a beard this may offend," the Comedy Central star wrote. "I am a comic and should never make fun of myself at the expense of anyone else that I wasn't making fun of in the first place. #relax #beard."

Just to clarify further, one of Schumer's reps told People Magazine that the joke's aim wasn't to criticize Swift but rather point out that Schumer, unlike the singer, doesn't have a thigh gap.
