Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi became an overnight sensation in the year 2002, with his dark underworld crime drama Company. Now he has apparently joined hands with Ram Gopal Varma for the second installment of the movie, temporarily titled Company 2.

The Varma directed edgy crime-thriller, which showcased the nihilistic underbelly of Mumbai in the most unabashed way, had gone on to win many awards and accolades for its realistic portrayal of the Mumbai underworld. Oberoi had even received critical as well as commercial acclaim for his role of Chandu.

In Company, Oberoi played the right hand man of Ajay Devgn's character Malik in the movie. He slowly rises to a higher position, and after killing off several of Malik's opponents from their gang Company, on his orders, comes face to face with his mentor, unwittingly getting him killed too in an emotional ordeal.

Company was hailed as one of the highest grossing movies of 2002 and inspired a bevy of movies made on the same theme. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave 3 stars out of 5, saying that "On the whole, COMPANY is amongst Ramgopal Varma's finest works. A stylishly narrated tale, the film will win plaudits and reap a rich harvest at the box-office for its hard-hitting content."

According to a report on Bollywoodmdb, Oberoi, who now wants to delve deeper into the nuances of the moviemaking process, has announced that he will produce the sequel. Oberoi, who shares a very good rapport with Varma, has collaborated with the director to produce a sequel to the successful Company . Fourteen years after the release of his debut movie, he is even planning to reprise his role of Chandrakant Nagre aka Chandu.

The actor, who is currently judging the second season of a drama-based reality show for kids on the small screen, says that he completely trusts Varma's vision, as the director had written great roles for him over the years. The actor was quoted by Times of India as responding:

"I'm flattered that people still remember a role I shot for 13 years ago. In fact, many of my fans who don't know my name call me Chandu bhai. They want to see me as a rough, rowdy, rugged anti-hero and that's what I am going to give them in Company 2."

Oberoi, who will be setting up his production house this year, has refused to divulge any more details about his debut production venture. He says the idea of a sequel to the 2002-hit underworld drama is still in its very budding stages and will require some time to develop.
