Stephen King's novel It, which became a 1990 miniseries starring Tim Curry as terrifying clown Pennywise, is being readapted into a two-part film directed by Argentinian filmmaker Andy Muschietti.

Producers Roy Lee has spoken to Collider regarding the future of the project.

"We're taking it and making the movie from the point of view of the kids, and then making another movie from the point of view of the adults, that could potentially then be cut together like the novel," Lee explained. "But it's gonna be a really fun way of making this movie."

The 1990 miniseries was also a two-part story, following the two time periods from King's novel.

For years, there had been rumors of a new It adaptation, and the project came close to happening last year. True Detective creator Cary Fukunaga worked on a retelling of King's sadistic clown monster, but pulled out weeks before production was set to begin. That prompted an overhaul of the project and delayed it for months until Muschietti came on board.

Will Poulter, who resembles a young Curry and most recently co-starred with Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant, had been attached to play Pennywise when Fukunaga was the project's director. However, as of January, when Poulter was interviewed on Den of Geek, he didn't know if he'd be playing the nightmare-inducing clown.

It's still unclear when the two-part It film will be reaching theaters.
