The upcoming remake of the cult classic two-part miniseries It, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name about the murderous clown named Pennywise, has hit some bumps in the road lately. It is still in preproduction but has no release date after original director and writer Cary Fukunaga left the project earlier this year. He has since been replaced by Andy Muschietti and Will Poulter is attached to star as the killer clown, but why did Fukunaga leave? In a new interview this week, the True Detective season one director opened up about his departure from the New Line movie.

"It's never easy," the acclaimed director told Entertainment Weekly this week, saying that he and writer partner Chase Palmer had worked so hard on the script for about three years. The decision was clearly not easy to make, but Fukunaga had his reasons.

"Ultimately, we and New Line have to agree on the kind of movie we want to make, and we just wanted to make different movies," Fukunaga explained, according to IGN. "It's like a relationship: you can try to make the other person who you want them to be, but it's impossible really to change. You just have to work."
