It's been 28 years since comedy legend Mel Brooks released Spaceballs, a parody of all science fiction movies and particularly Star Wars, and at the time, he promised that there'd be a Spaceballs: The Search for More Money sequel. While Brooks often promised sequels that never happened (where's History of the World: Part II?), new posters in the New York City subway give fans hope.

Jedi News took to Twitter to show the world the new posters seen in the subway, which show off a destroyed version of Dark Helmet's attire, mimicking the Darth Vader helmet that Kylo Ren talks to in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While this sounds right up Brooks' style of comedy, the 89-year-old comedian hasn't said anything about a sequel to the sci-fi parody.

In fact, just last year, Brooks revealed that he was still up to make the sequel, but he'd have to convince Rick Moranis to go for it as well. As Slash Film reports, Brooks has expressed interest in getting him and Daphne Zuniga back to reprise their roles of Dark Helmet and Princess Vespa. Brooks himself would also go for another round of Yogurt.

However, it should be hard to get Moranis to get back into acting. It's been almost two decades since the actor last appeared on a live-action project, and he recently even passed on the chance to make a cameo on the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. While Moranis does voice acting on occasion, the chances of him coming back to acting seem pretty slim.

Only a couple of months after Star Wars: The Force Awakens became the third highest-grossing film of all time, this would be the perfect time to come up with the Spaceballs sequel fans have been waiting for nearly three decades. Unfortunately, it seems like, at least for now, Brooks will miss the chance to mock ridiculous Star Wars tie-in products like BB-8 oranges or the Chewbacca toilet paper dispenser.
