Critically acclaimed actor Rajkummar Rao kept denying that he is set to star in Aamir Khan's upcoming sports-based film Dangal but if sources are to be believed, Rao will now be seen in a cameo in the Khan-starrer biopic.

Rao, who had his brush with fame in Bollywood with Dibakar Banerjee's experimental film Love Sex Aur Dhokha, came into the limelight with his portrayal of Gopal in Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che. He then went on to star in Mehta's biopic Shahid and won a National Award for it too.

According to a news report published on BollywoodLife, the actor, who has won a National Award for his performance in Hansal Mehta's Shahid, is all set to make a cameo appearance in Dangal, which is Khan's biopic on the Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. Reports have also confirmed that Rao will start shooting for his role later in the year.

Rao, who got in touch with Khan on the sets of the 2012 thriller Talaash starring Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor Khan in lead roles, was recommended by the latter to director Nitesh Tiwari to play a small role in the upcoming sports film.

"Rajkummar and Aamir met during Talaash and became friends. Now Aamir has recommended Rajkummar for the role of a selector in his next but in spite of that, Rajkumar still auditioned for the part. He has a special appearance in the film. He will start shooting for the film at the end of this year," revealed an insider.

Khan, who struck up a special friendship with the actor ever since the release of the romantic thriller, requested Tiwari to cast Rao in the role of a selector in the movie. Rao not only readily agreed to play the bitsy part, which came his way but also auditioned for it, says the report.

It is not yet known whether the duo will be seen sharing the same screen space for the film. Rao is currently winning praises again for his recently released Manoj Bajpayee-starring biopic Aligarh, based on the life of Dr Ramchandra Siras, where is he seen playing the role of a journalist.
