Last Sunday night, Sam Smith won the Best Song Oscar for "Writing's on the Wall," his theme for the James Bond movie Spectre. During his speech, he very inaccurately said he was the first openly gay man to win an Academy Award. Dustin Lance Black, who won for the Milk screenplay in 2009, called him out on Twitter in a new feud -- also asking Smith to stop texting his fiancé, Tom Daley!

Elton John, who has been out and since the late 80's and is one of the most outspoken members of the LGBT community, won an Academy Award in 1995 for his iconic "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" song from The Lion King, and while he's probably the most famous openly gay Oscar winner, there's a longer list -- one that Smith didn't bother to check when he was thinking of his Oscar speech.

When Smith misquoted a sir Ian McKellen interview about openly gay actors never winning the Oscar, the Internet went insane, including one particular winner.

Black, an openly gay man and LGBT activist, took to Twitter to correct Smith's major faux-pas. Posting the official clip of the moment Tina Fey and Steve Martin announced him as the 2009 winner, the screenwriter also gave us a glimpse into what could turn into a spat.

"Hey @SamSmithWorld, if you have no idea who I am, it may be time to stop texting my fiancé. Here's a start," Black tweeted, then posting the clip from his win.

Oh, snap!

The Mirror reports that, after the show, Smith went to the Vanity Fair Oscar party and said he was happy being the "second openly gay person" to take home the biggest award in film, a statement that's also untrue. Still, considering he just got an Academy Award to his name, it wouldn't be surprising if he takes a little while to backtrack on his (multiple) historically inaccurate comments, as he might be too drunk with victory for now.

And the next time Smith wins an award, hopefully he'll read up a little before making his speech.
