It took until episode three of Better Call Saul's second season for both Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) and parking attendant/henchman Mike (Jonathan Banks) to make a clean break from the path of righteousness.

Besides the smooth dialogues and the dark comedy, it's fascinating to watch Jimmy morph from a lawyer who cuts corners for the greater good to one with no scruples who partners with meth makers Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad

Jimmy has continued to work on the case he began last season with his brother, Chuck (Michael McKean), despite Chuck's constant efforts to sabotage him. Of course, Jimmy being Jimmy, he's played a little fast and loose with the professional ethics of lawyering to persuade more retirees to join the class-action lawsuit against Sandpiper.

Jimmy's girlfriend, Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), urges him to stay on the up and up; she stuck her neck out to get him hired, and her reputation is at stake as much as his. Jimmy agrees, mostly for her but also to avoid giving Chuck any ammo, and decides to run an ad during the retirement home's favorite show, Murder, She Wrote.

Jimmy pitches the idea to his boss, Cliff (Ed Begley Jr.), who reluctantly says "maybe," and leaves it there. Jimmy decides to go rogue and teams up with two film students (Josh Fadem and Julian Bonfiglio) to make an ad for the lawsuit, featuring a Norma Desmond-like Mrs. Strauss (Carol Herman), sad because she's lost all the money she saved for her golden years. Without consulting anyone at the firm, he runs the ad on TV once, and the calls start pouring in.

When Cliff finds out, he calls Jimmy, livid, and orders him into the office, where his fate is to be decided. Does Jimmy McNair enter the office and leave as Saul Goodman? We'll see.

In the meantime, Mike ignores his daughter-in-law Stacey's (Kerry Condon) plea to stay away and stakes out her house after she tells him she's heard gunshots in the middle of the night. Nothing happens, but the next day, Stacey tells him that she heard gunshots again. Is she losing her mind, or does she smell opportunity? Curiously, Stacey has no objections when Mike tells her that he's going to get her andTrying to make things right, Mike asks Stacey to move away from there with his granddaughter, Kaylee (Abigail Zoe Lewis), out of the neighborhood.

Suddenly, a high-paying job emerges via Mike's shady veterinarian contact (Joe DeRosa). Turns out Nacho Varga (Michael Mando) wants Mike to "get rid of a guy." Will this be the job that pushes Mike to a lifetime of crime?

The next episode of Better Call Saul, "Gloves Off," airs on AMC next Monday.
