BOOM! Studios continues the exciting revival of the comic book series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The evil Rita Repulsa is back, along with Tommy Oliver (played by Jason David Frank), in writer Kyle Higgins and artist Hendry Prasetya's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1.

According to the official BOOM! Studios site, the Ranger suits, giant Zords and Megazords, are back in this all-new comic book series. Based on the popular Saban franchise, the story follows the super powered teens as they attempt to  defend the world from evil. Take a trip back to the first season with the original group of kids with attitude.

As we previously mentioned, in the zero installment, readers were presented with a coming-of-age tale between Tommy and Jason. As Jason learns how to be a good leader to the Rangers, Tommy has spent weeks tormenting himself after being under Rita's dark spell. Is Tommy suffering from post-traumatic stress? Or is Rita still playing her mind-games on him?

In the first installment, this critic is so happy to say Bulk and Skull are back in the narrative. This time around, they're internet journalists documenting the many accomplishments of their idols in "Ranger Station." In the opening pages, Higgins does a great job recapping the five-part episode "Green with Evil," for first-timers.

Artist Hendry Prasetya emphasizes the teen angst and isolation that Tommy feels as the new kid in school. Notice how Prasetya uses wide shots to represent Tommy's loneliness as he is unable to connect with his fellow Rangers. Close-ups are used when Jason and Zack debate whether or not Tommy should be allowed to be part of the team, since he was one of Rita's followers.

RATING: TAKE MY MONEY!!

With the movie in production, this is a great way to revisit and catch up with the popular show. At its core, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 mixes the superhero action with teen drama.
