The show that has captivated the nation and has won the honor as the top-rated broadcast drama telecast in five years is having a bit of drama behind the scenes -- word on the street is that an actor has threatened to walk away from Empire.

The hit show is just a few weeks away from making its midseason debut. As a fan you could never imagine an actor threatening to walk away from one of the top primetime shows on television.

A variety of things can cause cast members to want to cut ties with a production, but when it comes to Empire, the rumors are enough to get people talking.

According to Page Six, Trai Byers, the actor who plays Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie's (Taraji P. Henson) bi-polar son Andre Lyon, wants to end his contract with the show.

The site reports that Byers has had enough of the role and is looking to get out of the contract as soon as he can.

"Trai wants out," a source shared to Page Six. "At first being on Empire was major for him. He thinks he has the acting chops of Taraji and Terrence. He doesn't get how the show benefits him, and he feels he has way too much talent when he's not the star by any means."

The news comes to a shock to many fans as the cast of the hit show not only seems to enjoy working together but has become family.

The site reports that Byers threw a bit of a tantrum after feeling that he is not being able to do enough. The actor fired his team after failing to secure a role in a new Muhammad Ali movie.

While Byers or FOX has yet to confirm or deny these allegations, sources close to the creators of Empire told the site that Byers isn't going anywhere.

"It's the last week of filming the season, and he's not quitting, nor is he being fired, for now."
